Providers who utilise specialised diagnostic imaging, radiation oncology and related devices can include their Location Specific Provider Number (LSPN) for Medicare Bulk Bill, Patient Claims and DVA claims. Medicare and DVA may require a LSPN for certain claim items.

To add a LSPN to a claim, create a new Medicare or DVA claim, then under the Provider and facility details section click Show Options. Enter your LSPN for the applicable location. LSPN can be one to six digits in length - leading zeros are accepted. If entered, this LSPN is applied to all items in a claim.

If you created a claim from an integrated practice management system, click edit under Provider and facility details to see options and to set the LSPN field. Some integrated PMS can automatically set LSPN - check with your vendor for details.

Notably:

  • Only one LSPN can be set per claim

  • LSPN cannot be set to zero

  • LSPN is required when a referral type code is set to Diagnostic Imaging

  • LSPN cannot be set with Pathology or General (Practitioner) services

  • LSPN cannot be set with Number of Patients Seen or when Time Duration is set for an item
