Tyro Health Online supports two options for general practitioners to submit overseas visitor health cover (OVHC) claims:

  1. Tyro HealthPoint via a digital or Tyro EFTPOS machine claim, or

  2. Tyro Health Online’ direct integration with nib - no terminal required.

Note: OVHC claiming includes claiming for those who are on overseas visitor, student and worker visas.

Tyro HealthPoint

Private health insurance claims (via HealthPoint) can be processed either by a:

Claims submitted using Tyro EFTPOS terminals that are activated for HealthPoint require the patient to swipe their health fund card. Digital claims send an approval request to the patient's mobile phone (via SMS) and don't require a physical health fund card to be swiped. Please note, rebate estimates can only be approved from a connected Tyro EFTPOS machine - not available with digital claims.

Note: OVHC via a terminal is only available on HealthPoint activated Tyro Countertop EFTPOS machines (excludes mobile machines) and only some health funds support OVHC.

nib direct

With our nib direct integration, GPs can submit an OVHC claim digitally via Tyro Health Online without a terminal or the need to tap or swipe a PHI card. Check out our introduction to nib direct claiming - this is a great option for:

  • Providers who aren't enabled for HealthPoint (digitally or on a Tyro EFTPOS machine) because nib direct claims are submitted direct from Tyro Health Online, straight from your browser. Patients don't need their nib card, and providers submit claims on behalf of your patient,

  • Batch uploading of invoices, especially for providers who don't charge a gap - submit multiple OVHC claims at once at the end of the day or week,

  • Telehealth claiming, and

  • Those who need to process the complete set of MBS codes, including those which require qualifying attributes.

The nib direct integration supports all MBS codes, including additional MBS item attributes, such as Number of Patients Seen which are not currently available in traditional terminal based services. These attributes may be required for providers who deliver group attendance services, after-hours care, home visits or hospital visits. Further, all the MBS codes will be limited by the link to their respective ‘Professional Category’, e.g. GPs will only see their item codes.
