Before you start:

What you need:

  • New ABN and business details

  • The date the change takes effect.

  • Authority to sign up to Tyro Health Online (THO).

  • If you use Tyro EFTPOS: the best contact person’s phone number and email (or the new owner’s contact details).

What “Change of Ownership (or CHOWN)” means in Tyro Health

If your business changes ownership or structure and this results in a new ABN, you can’t simply “edit” the existing ABN in THO because existing insurer or provider registrations may be impacted.

Instead, you’ll need to:

  1. Create a new THO account for the new ABN, then

  2. Take the next steps based on whether you use:

    • Tyro EFTPOS, and/or

    • Private health insurance claiming.

Option 1 (always required): Create a new THO account for the new ABN

  1. Sign up to create a new Tyro Health Online account for your new ABN

  2. Continue with the relevant option(s) below.

Option 2: If you have Tyro EFTPOS, transfer EFTPOS to the new ABN

If you have Tyro EFTPOS machines under your original ABN, you’ll need to update the ABN associated with your EFTPOS service.

What to do:

  • New ABN

  • Phone number and email address of the best contact person (or the new owner’s contact details)

  • Date the change takes effect

What happens next

  • Our team will send you a digital application to complete the ABN change and transfer your EFTPOS setup to the next ABN. Please allow 2-3 business days to receive your digital application.

  • Once you’ve submitted your digital application, please allow 5-10 business days for your application to be processed and approved.

Option 3: If you use private health claiming, register providers with the new ABN

If you use private health insurance claiming, your providers need to be setup under the THO account registered to the new ABN.

For instructions of how to setup Private Health claiming under your new ABN, please click here.

Depending on your setup, changing provider onboarding from one ABN to another can cause a temporary interruption to claiming while the new setup is processed.

Please reach out to our customer support team via the pink chat bubble to see if this may impact you.

Which option suits you?

If you only changed ABN (no EFTPOS, no Private Health claiming)

  • Create a new THO account for the new ABN (Option 1).

If you have Tyro EFTPOS (with or without Private Health claiming)

  • Create a new THO account for the new ABN (Option 1), and

  • Email healthonboarding@tyro.com to transfer EFTPOS to the new ABN (Option 2).

If you use Private Health claiming (with or without EFTPOS)

  • Create a new THO account for the new ABN (Option 1), and

  • Onboard/add your providers under the new ABN in THO (Option 3).

Common CHOWN scenarios

Scenario A: a business acquires another where both already use THO for online private health claiming

  • Add the active providers from the acquired business to the THO Account of the acquiring business, i.e. steps 1 and 3.

Scenario B: Same as Scenario A, but one or both businesses also have Tyro EFTPOS

  • As per scenario A, plus complete Option 2 to transfer EFTPOS to the new ABN.

Scenario C: A business with THO is acquired by a business without THO

  • As per scenario A.
